Kourtney Kardashian has temporarily stolen the spotlight away from Kim Kardashian and Kanye West by giving birth to a beautiful baby girl.
She and Scott Disick chose an interesting name for the latest member of the Kardashian clan:
Penelope Scotland Disick. According to granny Kris Jenner, Kourtney had an easy birth, so maybe she didn’t have to pull the baby out herself this time.
Kris also said that Penelope looks just like her brother Mason, which means she’s absolutely adorable. But what’s up with her name?
Mason Dash Disick got his moniker because Kourt simply liked the name Mason, and of course Dash is a reference to “Kardashian” (Dash was also her father’s nickname). So perhaps she just picked Penelope because she likes the way it sounds. Kourtney Kardashian joins Tina Fey as a fan of the name—the 30 Rock star has her own pretty Penny.
Penelope can mean “weaver,” and a few months ago Kourt was photographed wearing a Raoul “Penelope” dress, so perhaps fashion inspired the moniker. Or maybe the Kardashians are all fans of Penelope Cruz—Kim Kardashian once said that she’d love for the lovely Latina to play her in a movie.
The middle name Scotland might seem like a silly reference to Scott Disick’s name, but it could also refer to some of Kourt’s ancestors—Kris Jenner is of Dutch and Scottish descent. Hopefully it’s not a reference to where Penny was conceived (at least there don’t seem to be any reports of the Kardashian clan visiting Scotland).
Poor Kim Kardashian must be just a little bit jealous that Kourtney Kardashian has a daughter now—Kourt could try to steal Kimmy’s new BFF Beyonce by arranging play dates for Penny and Blue Ivy, and now Kourt and Bey have something in common to chat about.
But who knows? Maybe playing aunt and uncle to the infant will make Kim Kardashian and Kanye West start thinking about having their own bundle of joy.
So do you like Kourt’s baby name?
